Music Interview with Metal Band BE//GOTTEN

Life has gotten in the way for everyone and I'm just going to leave it at that because I'm pretty sure no matter where you are in the world right now if you look out the window there's a fucking disaster all around. That being said, WELCOME back my pretties! I have missed you so so much but I digress, I have something special for you once again! I managed to get an interview with the up and coming band BE//GOTTEN just for your lovely eyes to read! And I couldn't have asked for such a wonderful patient set of talented people.

I want to take the time to thank Skully and Reign for sitting down and taking the time to answer the questions for this interview, and I would like to thank their drummer Aires who I believe I had made original contact with!

WHOA, have I got a treat for you guys! If you have never heard of this band, I suggest you follow the links I have provided and get to know them because it is definitely worth your time. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourselves! πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️

Okay so let’s begin! Formalities aside!

What is the name of your band, who are the members, and how long have you all been making music together?

We’re a band called be//gotten from Dallas TX. As far as members go we’ve got Skully and Reign on vocals, wilΓΈ on guitar, Pharo on bass, Aires on drums, and then there’s JoJo who used to play live with us but stepped down to focus on producing and building up his studio, but he's still active as a writing/studio member with us. Everyone’s been in different bands in our scene since we were in high-school and that’s how we pretty much all met. In 2015 skully and reign began the beginning stages of the band and eventually, over time everything just fell into place to where we are now.

Are you independent artists? What are your goals with that? Trying to stay underground? Are you looking to branch out and get signed?

We actually recently announced our signing with Stay Sick Recordings back in the fall and just released our debut full-length record “LOVE/LOATHE/LUST3” at the end of February this year.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully headlining our own tours and being able to tour with some of the bigger names in the scene right now. One of our biggest goals with this is just longevity being able to last and retain/gain relevance through the test of time.

What would you say is the genre of your music?

You can call it whatever you want we just say metal.

Who would you say are a few artists that inspire you?

I mean the greats.. we respect and listen to a lot of different genres  so we’re all influenced differently individually. Micheal Jackson, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and Slipknot are definitely some of the big few we could all agree on.

Is there one person who primarily writes the lyrics? Or do you all contribute? Walk us through the writing process.

As far as lyrics go Skully and Reign do a pretty even split of everything. It’s kinda weird because there are times where either of us has just an idea or just a few lines that we write by ourselves and we just bring it to the studio and then we just kinda go off of one another and just inspire each other.

How is being an indie-artist during this difficult time for the world affecting your goals/careers? Have any of you been directly affected by COVID-19--if not by the virus itself, then by the wakes its making in the pond around us?

Definitely in our personal lives and as well as the band. It’s a little bittersweet and frustrating finally being able to release our first record and locking in touring plans for the rest of the year only to have it sabotaged by the outbreak. I guess the only silver lining is that since we’re a smaller band we weren’t hit with as big as a blow as some of the bigger bands that were about to start or had already started their headliners and being left with an insane amount of merch debt.

What is your collective favorite song to play live and why?

this is a tough one so we’ll prolly just narrow it down to three.. “h8 crusade” because it’s fun and hype for everyone. “Deadscene” because that’s a fun one for all the day ones. “Elm Street” because we’ve had some of the craziest crowd reactions playing it live.

Is there a specific story behind your favorite song on

Well, the whole album as a whole is basically about the cycle of being involved in a toxic relationship whether that be with a person or anything else in life someone could be attached to.

I’m getting early Manson meets Slipknot vibes in the first track off of

Yeah, we get that sometimes and well they’re both huge influences on our band so it’s expected to be compared to them at times. This is also really hard so we’ll namedrop a few. For Manson, it’ll
prolly be Coma White, mOBSCENE, The Fight Song, and The Irresponsible Hate Anthem. As for Slipknot (sic), Before I Forget, Duality, and Eyeless are some favorites too.

Have you guys been on tour officially yet? If so can you tell us a little bit about what life on the road was like for you? What’s your favorite venue to play at and why? Was the tour locally based or did you branch out to other states or go international? What was that like?

We’ve toured a handful of times for short little runs but they were fun! New York probably has been the best time and most memorable experience so far thanks to our brothers in Jynx.

Who is in charge of album art design? Branding? Is that one person or the band as a whole? Where did you come up with the name for your band? Is there a story behind that? Something significant or meaningful? Or something that just came to you on a whim?

So we got our name from the experimental horror flick “Be//gotten” which essentially is about the creation story but really fucked up. We thought that the name suited the project because we were creating something entirely new and different from anything we’ve ever done artistically.

Is there anything we (as fans) should look forward to hearing about in the near future in regards to BE//GOTTEN’s Instagram, twitch, or music in general?

We definitely are planning on releasing some new content really soon so keep an eye on all our socials.

What advice would you have for a young artist thinking of making a career out of music? Any word of encouragement would be helpful I imagine, esp during a time like right now where artists are relying primarily on streaming and networking to progress.

Don’t be afraid to do something different and make your own lane. It is really easy to lose yourself and to find yourself doing what everyone else is doing because that’s where the hype is. Find your identity and own it.

What kind of merch does your band have out currently? Do you have a website dedicated to your band up and running yet?

We currently don’t have an online store up but we have something in the works for that.

What are some obstacles you have had to face in the industry this far, that you have had to overcome personally?

Being taken seriously and a lot of that has to do with how we loom and present ourselves. It’s all good though fuck all that noise we’re gonna do what we want though. Haters eventually come around full circle.

Here’s a fun one I like to toss in, just to get an answer because it’s always fascinating to see what someone will say. If you could perform anywhere in the world, at any venue--where would it be and why?

Might as well check Antarctica off the list. Shout out Metallica they did it right.

Do you get stage anxiety at all during or before a performance? If you do, how do you overcome it? If not, is there sort of an energy or high your ride while the performance that you feel drives you from the screams/encouragements from the crowd?

We really don’t get nervous much, just excited. Even if there’s really not much of a crowd we still just get excited to do what we do no matter what.

Who are some of your favorite artists that you’ve performed with or toured with in the past? Who are some you would love to tour with/perform with?

It’s always fun playing with other up and coming artists because you get to meet and build friendships with people that are just as ambitious as you are. It’s also kinda inspiring in a way. We’d definitely FREAK OUT if there was some way for us to tour with BABYMETAL that would be crazy!

Are there any pre-show rituals any of you are into to warm yourselves up? Or a sort of lucky charm you take with you each night? Are any of you superstitious? If so, what are some examples of things you believe in?

We’re just as mean to each other as we possibly can be and we might rip a shot or two.

Support your local artists and not so local artists during this time of great uncertainty. Buy merch, stream their sick af music, Stop by their webpages and load up on some gear. Check out their streams because our support as fans matters now more than ever. Again, I would like to thank the members for working with me and I hope that I pointed ya'll (my readers) in the direction of another fuckin killer artist/artists!

That's all she wrote for now and I'll catch ya'll on the flip-side when I post next. It's going to be kinda here and there til I pick up a schedule again but I appreciate every one of you. Thank you for following.
